Project Spotlight: MAPS 3 Upper Park

Scissortail Park in Downtown Oklahoma City is a part of MAPS 3, a capital improvement program that uses a limited-term one cent sales tax to pay for projects without any debt.  The Upper Park will open in September 2019 and provide a great lawn and stage for outdoor concerts and events, a children’s playground, bike & walking paths, a café, and many other amenities.  Lithko installed 140,000 square feet of sub slab to support the boulevard walkway paver system.  Holes are drilled on 8’ centers to facilitate drainage under the pavers.  We also poured over 1200 linear feet of lake wall with a custom form liner.  The lake will be utilized for pedal boats and kayaks once the park opens.  A key feature of the Children’s Playground is the terraced seating, some of which will be partially covered with wooden slats.  The 38 acre project has a significant amount of special soils that took 6 months for the earthwork contractor to procure and begin installation.  In addition to making adjustments for significant rainfall during the course of the project, the Lithko team had to very carefully monitor the installation plan and schedule of the special soils contractor.  This was to ensure our activities did not contaminate the integrity of the soils which is critical to the life and health of the landscaping on the project.
