Worker Wednesday- Ben Wood

What do you enjoy about working at Lithko? What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

I enjoy putting in a day's work and being able to look back at the progress my team and I have accomplished each day. I am eager to get up every day to meet our goals and overcome challenges that are there every step of the way. For instance, our job entails working around other trades and adjusting to the ever changing jobsite/schedule.

What responsibilities did you have when you first started with Lithko? What are your responsibilities now?

I first started at Lithko as an intern during my freshman year in college. My Responsibilities were very hands on and they turned out to be the building blocks of my ongoing career path. After 3 internships, I came on board full time as a Project Engineer. My primary focus was layout and line/grade. From there, I evolved into a Field Lead. Currently, I am a learning Project Lead. My responsibilities include project planning, execution, and keeping the  project running safely, with good quality, and on budget.

What work challenges excite you?

Challenges that excite me are complicated site conditions, demanding schedules, and engaging/motivating the craft to accomplish our daily goals.

What has been your favorite project?

My favorite project is HCP 5, because of the unique challenges and building components. The job had limited access to only two sides of the building during construction. Additionally, the project included a cast in place wall that varied from 4 to 11 feet tall, which the tilt panels had to set on. Due to the constricted site conditions we had to erect the building with a hydraulic crane.

What is your career vision?

My career vision is to continuously grow and know all I can about the concrete industry. Eventually, I would like to move beyond the project tier level and continue my growth within Lithko.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don't know I worked on a dairy farm while I was in high school. During my four years at the farm, I learned a lot about hard work and working with others to accomplish a set goal.
